A good younger YA read for our staff book club. The story is suspenseful and heart-wrenching as well as heart warming. It is out of print so I'm trying to locate a copy second hand to put in the library.
A group of young friends are taken by surprise when one of their own goes willingly with a stranger and disappears. While they are worrying about where she is and if she is safe they are struggling with their own circumstances. Told from many perspectives, including the girl who is being held captive, the story is a page turner.
A disturbing read between fantasy and tortured reality this YA read has been on many must read lists of 2015 and after finishing I do agree but it was so not what I was expecting. Painfully told by a boy who isn't sure of his present reality or his future, it allows us to go with him into a mental illness and we, like him, are unsure of the future.
The Rosie Project
An enjoyable read for the staff book club, the main character is a well crafted modern day friend just trying to find his own happiness by locating a companion. Although his method is questionable the suspense and humor make it a quick, entertaining read.
