My last book of the summer was Summer Reading by Hilma Wolitzer. It's been a dry reading spell lately and this one continued that trend unfortunately. It was just ok. Not a recommended read.

A wonderfully told historical novel that brings to light a rarely talked about aspect of America's slavery past. White slave owner masters would take black slave mistresses and travel with them to Ohio to vacation. This novel tells the story of some of those mistresses who overcame their circumstances and some who did not. Painful to read and know this truth. Difficult to pick up each day and return to such a disgraceful past.

Mrs. lovinI started teaching English and Spanish at Blancester in 1996. After getting my masters in Library Science, I moved into the library and I've enjoyed connecting people to books ever since! Archives
