Keeping you connected

Hi there! It's Mrs. Lovin and this is where I'll let you know what's going on in the library media center.

Catching up on the latest reads...
Learning to Swim is in our library. A short lyrical memoir that speaks a young girl's truth on a summer trip that will change her course. Highly recommend to young adult and older who appreciate memoirs and verse novels.
Where the Crawdads Sing. I'd love input on whether this would be requested in our library. A popular read lately and I see why, Where the Crawdads is a mystery, a romance, a suspense, and some chick lit writing all headed to a great ending. I listened to it and found myself sitting on the porch way past my bedtime to finish. A good story.
Criminally Cocoa- a good cozy but I won't be adding it to our library.
Peril in Paperback and Decaffeinated Corpse are also parts of series I read that are cozy mysteries but I don't usually add to our library.
It's Not Supposed to Be This Way was a great read but more for adult women so I won't be adding.

Love in Frost, Steal Like an Artist, When Life Gives you lululemons, Before we were yours, invisible library, The last time I lied, Educated

I'm catching up on reviews for this year's reading...
Finding Love- A co-worker loaned me this Christian romance Christmas read and it was enjoyable. I wish I would have read it during the Christmas season when things are a bit more relaxed reading wise but I liked it. Good story, small town, tight community... a quick read. I won't be adding it to the library.
Steal Like an Artist is in our library. Austin Kleon's email newsletter is chock full of good links to articles, lists, books, and movies. We have several of his books in the HSLMC including his Black Out Poetry and this one. Quick, inspiring read to get your creative juices flowing!
When Life Gives You Lululemons. I will not be adding it to the library. My sister recommended this on audio and it really does just take you away into a world of the privileged and the troubled. I enjoyed the realistic humor, the friendships, the suspense.  A fun read but more for mature adults.
Before We Were Yours- I will be ordering this for our library. This was our book club read for January 2019. Several of our members had read it when we placed it on the list and that's a good sign, one that it is our kind of discussion. It is tough to categorize, sort of historical fiction from 1900-1950, sort of mystery/ suspense but more than anything I think this just a storytelling sort of book. Not necessarily a true story but surely inspired by many, many sad stories of the depression era, of abandoned children, stolen children, shattered families.
Invisible Library- I will be ordering this for our library. I enjoyed listening to this mystery based on an imaginary library and the quest to keep it safe. Although I don't consider fantasy my favorite genre I always seem to enjoy it when someone recommends it to me. This sets up what I think will be an enjoyable series to come.
The Last Time I Lied- I will be ordering for our library. Our student book club chose this read for January. I really enjoyed this suspenseful read and think it would make a fabulous movie. This will stay checked out of our library. I'll be recommending to juniors and seniors especially and to those who enjoyed Dangerous Girls.
Educated- I will be adding to our library. Our Clinton County Reads choice for 2019 and our August staff book club read, this memoir has been reviewed and talked about for the past year. Westover overcomes a background that we've heard of but don't hear many people escape from until now. Her family keeps tight in their piece of the land, working off the grid, living off the grid for the most part, and keeping to themselves. When Westover decides to attend college after never having attended formal education she struggles and yet excels. A story about families and how they fail us, Educated gives us much to talk about and much to consider in education.

book supremacy

Every book lover dreams of running across that valuable book at a market or second hand stand. Book Supremacy starts there. I started reading Carlisle in the summer of 2013 with The Lies that Bind. I immediately went back to the beginning of the Bibliophile series and started again! How fun! Following Brooklyn on her book/murder adventures never fails to entertain. The crowd returns Derek and Alex and new friends are introduced with Owen and the wannabes. Each book adds to the literary setting and although I haven't made it to an escape room yet a book or library themed one is an excellent idea! And what a setting for Brooklyn's new mystery. Brooklyn and Derek's new relationship status adds to the feeling of settling into a series. Once again this cozy murder series does not disappoint. Great setting, likable and unlikable characters, a mysterious book, and a race to the end.

I started teaching English and Spanish at Blancester in 1996. After getting my masters in Library Science, I moved into the library and I've enjoyed connecting people to books ever since!
