I reread The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe to discuss at Classics Book Club. I've read it before but I totally enjoyed it again. Lewis's imagination and descriptions draw the reader into Narnia and it feels like watching the scenes take place. The religious references also make the story sound familiar and make the reader wonder how they are going to coincide in this story with these characters.
I don't have this title in the HSLMC...
Perdu's ability to prescribe books to his patrons is intriguing and satisfying. Interwoven with his love of books is his actual lifelong love of Manon. The journey to finding peace with that relationship drives the book's story and Perdu's many friendships with those on a similar journey to love.
So B. It
A good younger YA read for our staff book club. The story is suspenseful and heart-wrenching as well as heart warming. It is out of print so I'm trying to locate a copy second hand to put in the library.
A group of young friends are taken by surprise when one of their own goes willingly with a stranger and disappears. While they are worrying about where she is and if she is safe they are struggling with their own circumstances. Told from many perspectives, including the girl who is being held captive, the story is a page turner.
A disturbing read between fantasy and tortured reality this YA read has been on many must read lists of 2015 and after finishing I do agree but it was so not what I was expecting. Painfully told by a boy who isn't sure of his present reality or his future, it allows us to go with him into a mental illness and we, like him, are unsure of the future.
The Rosie Project
An enjoyable read for the staff book club, the main character is a well crafted modern day friend just trying to find his own happiness by locating a companion. Although his method is questionable the suspense and humor make it a quick, entertaining read.
I started teaching English and Spanish at Blancester in 1996. After getting my masters in Library Science, I moved into the library and I've enjoyed connecting people to books ever since!
